Compression Therapy for Varicose Veins

Compression Therapy PAIf you have varicose veins, you are probably all-too-familiar with symptoms. People who live with swollen veins for an extended period understand well that the cosmetic aspect of varicose veins is only one small detail. The aching, the cramping, the fatigue; these are symptoms that can get in the way of quality of life just as much as, if not more than, the obvious appearance of weakened venous structures.

At Vena Health & Wellness, we offer safe, effective treatments that have been used for years to successful remove or seal off varicose veins. At the same time, we also know there is value to compression therapy. Here’s what you need to know . . .

The Cause of Varicose Veins

Varicose veins do not develop in every person or even at a certain age. This common condition affects approximately 30 percent of the popular. A large number of patients diagnosed with some vein disorder are women, though men can also develop problem veins. Varicose veins indicate that blood is accumulating somewhere along a weakened vessel. The more blood that pools, the more the ropy vein bulges. This accumulation of blood occurs when a valve that facilitates the proper circulation of blood stops working. Without the function of each valve, blood in the legs cannot sufficiently move against gravity.

A Case for Compression

Compression stockings may seem an odd fashion statement. In fact, wearing graduated compression socks is something that can help people with varicose veins feel more comfortable. Compression works by supporting the weak vessel and by promoting circulation in an upward motion to minimize swelling.

Compression therapy is a form of management. It is not a “cure” for varicose veins. If the legs become chronically weak, fatigued, or achy, or that the cosmetic appearance of varicose veins becomes a thorn in the side of your confidence, treatment should be sought.

Surgical vein treatments are not the only option for people who want to attend to existing vein disease. Sclerotherapy and even ablation are common non-surgical, minimally-invasive treatments that close veins for improved comfort and appearance.
